Ex Voto Naive Painting

Stock Number: HB763

Ex Voto naive oil painting on card. A tradition of folk art that acts as a tribute to divine intervention in personal calamities or misfortunes. This fine example depicts Madam Ducas being thrown from her steed as it was spooked by a rogue dog near D'Estagnole Southern France. The painting, as tradition dictates has the Virgin Mary and Child looking over, almost touching the intended subject, protecting them. The painting itself is naive with a sharp attention to detail, found in its original painted frame. France Circa 1880. Light craqulure. Measurement includes frame.
